My Acer Laptop required me to press and hold F2 as soon as you see the Acer logo, and Acer Desktops seem to prefer the Del key instead.

For this purpose, I have a cheap Acer laptop that came with Windows 8.1. So how do I make this laptop dual boot Windows 8 and Ubuntu using Ubuntu 14.x and Windows 8.1?

These are the few easy steps I took to make my laptop dual boot Windows 8.1 and Ubuntu 14.x.

Secure Boot is actually a BIOS (or more correct UEFI) option, which makes sure that the computer is only booted with software the PC manufacturer trusts (see also this Microsoft Tech Net Article).

Please note that “Secure Boot” is not a requirement for any Operating System (as far as I know), rather an attempt by hardware manufacturers to get PC’s more “secure” … ) “Secure Boot” should not be confused with “UEFI” and “Legacy” boot mode!
